Independent Studies can be compared to working remotely as an employee of a company. Similar to working remotely for a company is the independent studies student whose education is completely directed by a structured system. There is little room for personal creativity and exploration outside of the determined curriculum guidelines required for all students as consistent with each grade level. Parents may choose to involve their children in extracurricular activities; however, there is no support from the school. Classes are taught by teachers and parents are encouraged to participate in the learning of their student (s) especially as it relates to the completion of homework and projects. Additionally, counselors are available to monitor the progress of the student (s), assist with interventions, or make referrals for special services.
Homeschool is similar to being self-employed. As with those self-employed, parents who homeschool have the freedom to navigate the complete education plan for their student (s).
We work with parents and students to create an individualized education plan. Credit recovery, educational support, and special intervention services are available.
Core classes are completed via an online, interactive program for grades 1-6. The curriculum for grades 7-9 is HYBRID. Some of the core classes are completed via online options and other core classes are satisfied by completing aspects of our basic entrepreneurship program. Students in grades 10-12 will choose the vocational, occupational, or professional pathways for higher education. They will satisfy core classes and electives by completing our basic entrepreneurship program. The four subject areas of core studies are English & Reading, Math & Economics, Research & Writing, and Projects & Community Service.
Simultaneously, each year, starting with the 1st grade, students acquire a certificate and/or certification by completing a component of our basic entrepreneurship program. Students are also encouraged to learn a foreign language, how to play an instrument, competitive games and sports, and/or an aspect of home economics.
Families of students may qualify to receive food, clothing, and transportation assistance. Additionally, as the capstone of our basic entrepreneurship program, seniors will open a for-profit or nonprofit business as it is a requirement for graduation. This accomplishment can serve as a source of income for years to come.
Each student will be involved in a shadowing, mentorship, or internship yearly. These opportunities will facilitate interactions with experts in various occupational fields, acquaint students with some of the particulars of their career path choice, and allow them to accumulate hours of community service and work experience. Additionally, students may receive grants, scholarships, and contest awards for academic excellence.
